Tested suspect rain water tank

By: on 26 January 2015
Had some concerns about one of our rain water tanks after recent major local bush fires and some people not feeling well. Use water test kit and whilst mineral checks were all very normal for rain water (mostly 0), even the e.coli returned a purple (negative result). But it gave peace of mind that the problem must have been elsewhere so back to using water again. Test for e.coli was simple to conduct but I am still not sure about the result. Test on bottle seems to indicate its a YES/NO result and that the colours are very definite. PURPLE - NO, YELLOW - YES. Only suggestion I can make is to give a better indication of the colours expected as it was not clear if it would be a hard "yellow" despite how much e.coli was present. When trying to watch for color changes, sometimes it did look a bit like purple with a slight yellow dilution (i.e not a strong purple) but we are not sure if this is still clear result!! - i.e. if its an off purple with a slightly yellow look is that still good or a little bad? It certainly was not yellow....
